In Memoriam

Jacob Festus Ade Ajayi

Jacob Festus Ade Ajayi

When Jacob Festus Ade Ajayi died in August 2014, he left behind a legacy as a pioneer in the study of African history. Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), he and his wife, Christie, came to OMSC for the spring semester 1998 so that he could do research for a biography on Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther.

Christie remembers their time at OMSC with fondness, and in December 2016 she made a contribution to OMSC to honor his memory and the memory of the time spent in New Haven. More than a year after her gift, we continue to be blessed not only by her husband’s legacy, but by her gift to help other scholars as well.
