Kip Elolia was born in Kenya, studied in Canada and moved to the United States for work. He holds the Ph.D. from Trinity College at the University of Toronto and currently a professor of Theology and World Christianity at Milligan University. Before his appointment to Emmanuel, Dr. Elolia taught for four years at St. Norbert College, Wisconsin. In the Summers, Dr. Elolia has been an adjunct lecturer at Kapsowar School of Theology, Kenya. In those classes African students are unafraid to interrogate and evaluate missionary Christianity while at the same time recognizing God’s liberating message through us. Dr. Elolia’s broad research and teaching interests for which he has also published include Theology of Mission, Global Christianity, African pneumatology, Postcolonial Theology, Religion and Civil Society, Theology of wealth and Poverty and Theological Ethnography. His edited volume Religion and Politics (2013) was selected for panel discussion at the 2013 AAR/SBL annual meeting. His latest book Marakwet Ethnography was published in 2024. Dr. Elolia has served on professional boards including AAR’s African Religion Unit. Him and his wife Robin live in Johnson City where they enjoy nature and hiking in the Appalachia mountains. Their two adult children Kimu and Pippa have recently relocated to Brooklyn, New York.
